Community Outreach

The chair seeks to create and promote several group volunteer opportunities during the year as well as inform the membership of volunteer needs in our community and ways to "get involved". What these activities are and how often they occur are at the discretion of the chair. There are usually no opportunities planned for the summer. We do have several activities we have done for a number of years that may be repeated, if desired, such as a United Way Day of Caring team in September, the Virginia Film Festival in November, promotion of Toy Lift in December, Valentines Pizza Party for the UVA Hospitality House and volunteering at Design House for the Shelter for Help in Emergency in May.  An email list is used by the chair to  find volunteers on a shorter notice when non profits make requests for help with mailings, for which we are generally successful. The chair assists the Service Committee in several ways as needed - suggesting non profits Service should invite to the September Hospitality event and how to decide the recipients of the 50/50 raffles at luncheons.
